Welcome to Nantucket Beaches

Nantucket beaches offer something for everyone. The beach at Brant Point is aptly named for its view of the beautiful historic Brant Point Lighthouse, this beach is a great place to watch boats as they travel through the channel in and out of the harbor. A fun place for kids is Children’s Beach with just a little surf and lifeguard patrol it is an excellent choice for a family outing. For those who want more than sand and surf, Jetties Beach is packed with amenities like a skate park, a playground, and volleyball nets. The Miacomet Beach delivers surf strong enough to challenge the most advanced swimmer. Young or old, non-swimmer or expert swimmer, water or land sport lover; the beaches of Nantucket are sure to please.

Brant Point
Brant Point is located right on the Harbor Channel, close to town. The boats sailing in and out of Nantucket Harbor, coupled with a view of Brant Point Lighthouse, make the scenery at Brant Point exceptional. Those interested in fishing for Stripped Bass should try casting at the rocks near Brant Lighthouse. There is parking available at Brant Beach, but no other facilities. However, Jetties Beach is close to Brant Beach. It has numerous amenities.


Children's Beach
Children's Beach is located right on the harbor, west of Steamship Wharf. The beach's name is apt because it is a great place to bring small children. Children's Beach has lifeguards and little surf, making it a great place for families. Amenities at the beach include a park, playground, and a snack bar. The beach, which has a bandstand, often hosts free weekend concerts.


Cisco


Cisco is located at the end of Hummock Pond Road, and it is four miles from town. This beach has heavy surf. It is patrolled by lifeguards for added safety. Fishing is allowed at this beach. Parking is available as well.




Jetties Beach
Jetties Beach is located on North Beach Street, and is within walking distance from downtown (20 minutes). People can also bike, take the shuttle bus, or drive to the beach. The large beach parking lot fills quickly, and an alternate method of reaching Jetties Beach is recommended. Jetties Beach has mild waves and fabulous amenities which make it ideal for families with small children. The beach has a bathhouse, restaurant, skate park, playground, restrooms, two town tennis courts, volleyball nets, water sport rentals, and lifeguards. The beach has fireworks on July 4, and hosts a sandcastle competition in August.

Madaket
Madaket is located at the end of Madaket Road, on the west end of Nantucket. It is not the best beach for swimming due to its heavy surf. However, swimming is permissible and lifeguards patrol the beach to insure safety. Food and restrooms are available at this beach, and fishing is permitted. A six-mile bike path runs alongside Madaket. This beach supposedly has the best sunsets on all of Nantucket.


Miacomet Beach
Miacomet Beach has very strong surf. Only the strongest swimmers should venture into its waters. No lifeguards patrol the area. Fishing is available at Miacomet Beach. No facilities or food are provided.




Miacomet Pond
Miacomet Pond is the only freshwater pond on Nantucket. It is an excellent place to bring kids, but there are no lifeguards. Parents should keep watch for snapping turtles. There are no facilities at Miacomet Pond. Parking is available.

Nobadeer

Nobadeer is one of the most difficult beaches to reach in Nantucket. It has no parking lot, and is located near the airport. No lifeguards watch the beach, and there are no facilities available. This beach is less popular than many on Nantucket, but is great for those seeking privacy. Those looking to get away from the crowds will love Nobadeer.

Siaconset
Siaconset is located at the end of Milestone Road. The beach can be reached by shuttle or bike path, but it also has a parking lot. It is less crowded than other Nantucket beaches due to its heavy surf. However, lifeguards are there to keep swimmers safe. Restrooms, phones, and fishing are available at Siaconset.


Surfside
Surfside Beach is located at the end of Surfside Road. It is accessible by car, bike, or public trolley. It typically attracts younger crews without families, probably because the surf is not safe for small children. Volleyball, surfcasting, and body surfing are popular activities at Surfside. Lifeguards, bathrooms, showers, public phones, and a snack bar are available at this beach. It is recommended that drivers arrive early because the free parking lot fits approximately 60 cars and fills quickly.


Tom Nevers
Tom Nevers is a less-popular beach because it is more difficult to reach than other Nantucket beaches. Fishing is available at the beach, but other facilities are not. The surf is typically heavy, and swimmers should use caution. There are no lifeguards at Tom Nevers, so it is recommended that only confident swimmers venture into the waters. Those seeking privacy will enjoy Tom Nevers.
