Welcome to Nantucket Beaches
Nantucket beaches offer something for
everyone. The beach at Brant Point is aptly named for its view of the beautiful
historic Brant Point Lighthouse, this beach is a great place to watch boats
as they travel through the channel in and out of the harbor. A fun place
for kids is Children’s Beach with just a little surf and lifeguard patrol
it is an excellent choice for a family outing. For those who want more than
sand and surf, Jetties Beach is packed with amenities like a skate park,
a playground, and volleyball nets. The Miacomet Beach delivers surf strong
enough to challenge the most advanced swimmer. Young or old, non-swimmer
or expert swimmer, water or land sport lover; the beaches of Nantucket are
sure to please.
Brant Point
Brant
Point is located right on the Harbor Channel, close to town. The boats
sailing in and out of Nantucket Harbor, coupled with a view of Brant Point
Lighthouse, make the scenery at Brant Point exceptional. Those interested
in fishing for Stripped Bass should try casting at the rocks near Brant
Lighthouse. There is parking available at Brant Beach, but no other facilities.
However, Jetties Beach is close to Brant Beach. It has numerous amenities.
Children's Beach
Children's
Beach is located right on the harbor, west of Steamship Wharf. The beach's
name is apt because it is a great place to bring small children. Children's
Beach has lifeguards and little surf, making it a great place for families.
Amenities at the beach include a park, playground, and a snack bar. The
beach, which has a bandstand, often hosts free weekend concerts.
Cisco
Cisco
is located at the end of Hummock Pond Road, and it is four miles from
town. This beach has heavy surf. It is patrolled by lifeguards for added
safety. Fishing is allowed at this beach. Parking is available as well.
Jetties Beach
Jetties
Beach is located on North Beach Street, and is within walking distance
from downtown (20 minutes). People can also bike, take the shuttle bus,
or drive to the beach. The large beach parking lot fills quickly, and
an alternate method of reaching Jetties Beach is recommended. Jetties
Beach has mild waves and fabulous amenities which make it ideal for families
with small children. The beach has a bathhouse, restaurant, skate park,
playground, restrooms, two town tennis courts, volleyball nets, water
sport rentals, and lifeguards. The beach has fireworks on July 4, and
hosts a sandcastle competition in August.
Madaket
Madaket
is located at the end of Madaket Road, on the west end of Nantucket. It
is not the best beach for swimming due to its heavy surf. However, swimming
is permissible and lifeguards patrol the beach to insure safety. Food
and restrooms are available at this beach, and fishing is permitted. A
six-mile bike path runs alongside Madaket. This beach supposedly has the
best sunsets on all of Nantucket.
Miacomet Beach
Miacomet
Beach has very strong surf. Only the strongest swimmers should venture
into its waters. No lifeguards patrol the area. Fishing is available at
Miacomet Beach. No facilities or food are provided.
Miacomet Pond
Miacomet
Pond is the only freshwater pond on Nantucket. It is an excellent place
to bring kids, but there are no lifeguards. Parents should keep watch
for snapping turtles. There are no facilities at Miacomet Pond. Parking
is available.
Nobadeer
Nobadeer
is one of the most difficult beaches to reach in Nantucket. It has no
parking lot, and is located near the airport. No lifeguards watch the
beach, and there are no facilities available. This beach is less popular
than many on Nantucket, but is great for those seeking privacy. Those
looking to get away from the crowds will love Nobadeer.
Siaconset
Siaconset
is located at the end of Milestone Road. The beach can be reached by shuttle
or bike path, but it also has a parking lot. It is less crowded than other
Nantucket beaches due to its heavy surf. However, lifeguards are there
to keep swimmers safe. Restrooms, phones, and fishing are available at
Siaconset.
Surfside
Surfside
Beach is located at the end of Surfside Road. It is accessible by car,
bike, or public trolley. It typically attracts younger crews without families,
probably because the surf is not safe for small children. Volleyball,
surfcasting, and body surfing are popular activities at Surfside. Lifeguards,
bathrooms, showers, public phones, and a snack bar are available at this
beach. It is recommended that drivers arrive early because the free parking
lot fits approximately 60 cars and fills quickly.
Tom Nevers
Tom
Nevers is a less-popular beach because it is more difficult to reach than
other Nantucket beaches. Fishing is available at the beach, but other
facilities are not. The surf is typically heavy, and swimmers should use
caution. There are no lifeguards at Tom Nevers, so it is recommended that
only confident swimmers venture into the waters. Those seeking privacy
will enjoy Tom Nevers.
